Boston Connects, Inc. In January 1999, Boston was designated an Empowerment Zone (EZ) by HUD. The goal of the EZ is to generate economic self-sufficiency for individuals, families, and communities through job creation and human development. Boston Connects was established in November 1999 to oversee and implement the EZ’s Strategic Plan. Create a program to develop and nurture partnerships with organizations who committed money, jobs, and effort to Boston Connects in its application for Empowerment Zone status in 1998.
Cambridge Family & Children's Services The mission of Cambridge Family & Children’s Service (CFCS) is to strengthen families and promote conditions that provide children and adolescents with stable homes and community environments. CFCS provides a variety of programs and services to ensure that infants, toddlers, and older and often forgotten children receive the opportunity for a permanent adoptive family; young adolescent women are provided with safe, nurturing homes and the opportunity to acquire independent living skills; families who have a child with physical or mental disabilities obtain the support services they need; and homeless mothers with young children gain the means and skills to transition to permanent housing. National Black College Alliance The National Black College Alliance is a group of alumni and students of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, working together with urban minority high school students to create a new generation of civic leaders. Beacon Academy The mission of Beacon Academy is to provide a unique opportunity for motivated and promising eighth grade students in the Boston urban area to embark on a transformational year between eighth and ninth grades.  Through rigorous academics and empowering experiences, Beacon Academy aims to change the trajectory of students’ lives. With increased confidence and improved skills, students will be positioned to succeed at competitive independent and public exam schools. Project HEALTH Project HEALTH works to ensure that every child grows up free from the obstacles imposed by poor health. Project HEALTH addresses challenges faced by low-income families through innovative hospital-based advocacy programs and community-based afterschool programs.
